Located at the most copious of the Jordan River's headwaters, in 1966 salvage excavations at the site developed into a major excavation project. The site revealed an almost uninterrupted sequence of occupation from the Neolithic period through the late Roman period. This book chronicles Tel Dan's history and archaeology, including its initial settlement, Early Bronze Age urbanization, its massive earthwork fortifications and unique mud-brick gte of the Middle Bronze Age, the tombs of the Middle and Late Bronze Ages, evidence for the migration of the tirbe of Dan in the Early Iron Age and the rise of a national cult center in the Israelite period.
