הספר כולל מאמרים רבים בעברית ובאנגלית הערוכים על פי שערים נושאיים: תהליכים דמוגרפיים והתיישבותיים, גיאוגרפיה היסטורית, אמנות, תרומת הארכיאולוגיה לחקר ההיסטוריה, התרבות והדת, אפיגרפיה, חקר העיור בארץ ישראל בתקופה הרומית-ביזנטית ומחקרים בארכיאולוגיה והיסטוריה נוצרית. החוקרים מציגים במאמריהם את חידושי המחקר הארכיאולוגי בתחומים אלו ותרומתם למחקר עברה של ארץ ישראל הקדומה.
