Qadmoniot is aimed at a general audience. This publication first appeared in 1967. Its founder and first editor was the late Professor Yigal Yadin. Over the years Qadmoniot has published thousands of articles and excavation reports summarizing archaeological and historical topics concerning archaeological findings in the Land of Israel and its neighbors.

While the articles published in Qadmoniot meet high scientific standards and are generally authored by leading scholars, the topics selected for publication and the style of presentation are aimed at a broad audience, including archaeology buffs and educated readers. Most of the articles cover general topics, report on important excavations of general interest, present new findings, announce major innovations in research or survey specific topics or periods. Articles presenting excavation results or reporting special finds are written by the excavators themselves. Summary articles are by leading scholars. All articles are in clear, accessible language, avoiding professional jargon and aimed at both professionals and educated laymen.

 

In addition to its main articles Qadmoniot has several sections, some regular and some occasional.

 

Spotlight: A section with two or more articles covering a single topic, examined from different points of view.

 

Brief reports: A section including brief reports on interesting and unique recent finds and discoveries.

 

What is this?:

A section dealing with a scientific field or specialization in archaeology.

 

Books: A section covering recent books, with an emphasis upon books of scientific importance and ones of interest to an educated audience.

Bulletin: News concerning the Israel Exploration Society, conventions, congresses, etc.

 

In memoriam: Tributes to recently deceased scholars.
