Hebrew Bullae from the Time of Jeremiah. Remnants of a Burnt ArchiveThe objects form a group of 255 Hebrew seal-impressions on clay bullae from the final days of the Kingdom of Judah, the largest assemblage ever found. The bullae, small blobs of clay originally attached to strings tied around rolled papyri, served to seal documents deposited in a now-lost public archive. These were impressed with seals bearing the names of their owners in ancient Hebrew script, some of whom are individuals referred to in the Bible.
