This volume presents the results of the fifth season of excavations at Hazor, which took place between July and October 1968. The excavations were carried out under the direction of the late Professor Yigael Yadin on behalf of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Israel Exploration Society. This is also the final volume in the series of the James de Rothschild Expedition at Hazor reports and the last Hazor volume in the Yigael Yadin legacy.   
The fifth excavation season was conducted in areas A, BA, L, M, N and P, and was intended to clarify various problems which remained unsolved after the four previous seasons. The fifth excavation season investigated several new areas which were expected to shed additional light on town planning at Hazor in various periods.
